Bud Does Know The Difference

The world revoles  around Bud; he has outside only toys  and inside only toys.  I was having company and Bud got so excited by more people coming to see him. Of the house was spotless for a dinner party. The floor is clean and wouldn't you know Bud drops an outside toy. Oh well my house is a dog house and would rather have my sweet boy over clean floors and day !

Bud's Traumatic Evening

It was laundry day in Bud's house. We have a new slip cover for the old sofa (Bud's sofa) that we took off to wash. My worker decided to put a chair on the couch so Bud wouldn't get up there and get it dirty without the cover on it. I told my worker not to do it because I knew Bud would be traumatized. I told her a blanket would be better, but she put the chair anyway, and Bud was beside himself. See for yourself the trauma Bud had to endure for 45 minutes while the slip cover was being washed. I think Bud will need therapy for many months for this one.

Dog Manners 101 Sniff Test

Gracie was gone for hours to be groomed and Lesa at Unleashed in Caycous. It was such a good job on Gracie that Bud didn't now it was the same dog. Grace can be cranky in the early morning but she hates cleaning around her eyes. Gracie seems happy to be free of all the hair. Before the cut she got burs and sticks in her fur. Thank you Lisa for working hard on her I 'm going to keep her short. She is happy and she is very loving. Until a dogs sniff her behind. She was on her on the streets of LA. She learned how to defend herself. The other day I saw her kiss Bud on the lips,  watch closely !
Now Gracie has her great stylus !!!

Life Is Good

Bud is a happy dog. I love my dog so I take good care of him. Recently I purchased slip covers because the leather love seat has been destroyed by his nails and age... It has been his spot for the nine years of his life. The love seat had been damaged from his nail etc. Some people don't let their dogs on the furniture. I see why now. Bud has a cozy crate in my office where I do my writing which is a lot of time every day. Bud has a large memory foam bed in the living room as well.
Bud goes on the love seat to look out the front window. I didn't think it was possible he could love that spot even more! the slip covers are quilted pad and extra cushy. He loves it the only problem is that Gracie, who has a cozy crate in my bedroom and a basket with soft blankets, wants to also lay on the love seat now.
Miss Gracie found this love seat too irresistible! Bud is good natured about it but afraid of Gracie's grouchy mornings. What to do, what to do?

Mom's New Floor

Mom got new floors. I was happy with the old floor. I could lay on the floor when i was wet and Mom let me and sis Gracie clean up her dinner in the living room. She let me wait by the kitchen table drooling while waiting for her to give me her egg yolk and she let me clean up the bowl of yogurt and little Gracie licks the spoon.
But now I don't know what to do or where to go. She keeps saying no drooling on her new floor. You used to love my drool? you said you love it? where do I go? Thank goodness there's still carpet in this house!
Gracie says I love the floor! it feels so good on my back. Mom always gets mad though and says I bring sticks and dirt in from the yard.
Mom caves when Gracie is gone, she lets me lick the bowl again in the living room but says I have to try and not make a mess. Mom had one of her helpers buy a mat for the floor so that when I wait for food in the morning my drool doesn't get all over her precious floor. Mom says Gracie and I are more important than having a clean house..

Mom's Office Day Is So Borng That Bud Naps

I love writing but I dread office work; you know like paying bills and files papers, making appointments etc. I would much rather take Bud to the beach or get Gracie exercised. Anything to get me out of the house! The other day I was working at my desk with a helper and I lost track of the time. It had been 3 hours. I didn't know that Bud was in the room until we finished.  Look at sweet boy Bud he has his own private suite including a private curtain... look closely at his curtain! custom homemade
I spent the rest  of the afternoon outside. I LOVE watching Bud play. Bud is the best digger in the history of great diggers, he is the BEST.

Dexter House Guest

My new neighbor's dog is a very sweet boy. He spent the night and the next day he could not resist himself to food on the counter top. The story is, that my helper left the house  with him in the house alone. She left plates of chicken and quinoa while walking Gracie. Well the rest is very predicable............dogs are opportunistic feeders.  So of course he thought how nice of Denise  to leave food at his nose level.....
Dexter is a mix Catahoula dog from Louisiana  the dogs are bred to climb trees to corner raccoons getting food on the counter was eazy pesy! The next day he gave me flowers and an apology ..............he could not help himself ..........that is really in his nature .
The Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog is believed to have originated from Nordic Wolfhound being introduced some three to five hundred years before the Spanish arrived, however, no one will really know for sure. The state of Louisiana is cited as the point of origin, particularly the area of Catahoula. In 1979, the breed was designated the state dog of Louisiana. The Catahoula was named after a Parish in northeastern Louisiana and after the mottled spots on its coat. At one time this breed was used to round up feral pigs and cattle—livestock that had escaped, and was living in woods and swamps. It involved team effort that is highly coordinated and organized, fast paced, dangerous and a marvel to watch. The ideal dog team usually numbers three, and they must work together. Otherwise, one pig can kill all three in a matter of minutes. Each dog has to be aware of what the pig and the other two dogs are doing and react accordingly. Hunters sometimes used the Catahoula to trail and tree raccoons, but this dominant breed is more at home acting the thug with obstinate boars. This dog is used particularly on the difficult task of driving and rounding hogs and unruly cattle.

I will forgive any boy who gives me flowers for anything. He is a sweet boy!

Diva Prince Bud

Several times a day Bud will get up and look out the doggie door. He will check to see what the weather is like.. if it is stormy or rainy or too cold he will say "oh I guess I will just hold my pee." He will also look out to check for people coming to visit. What a lazy boy, but he is getting older and doesn't have as much energy. He saves his energy for play time instead. He is my prince Bud. I love him so much.

Who's knocking?

Who could it be? I think it might be Gracie girl.. She is checking in to see when the food is going to be ready. The dogs love the doggie door to see whats going on. Bud will poke his head out to see what the weather is like before he goes outside. Gracie will go out no matter what weather, but she likes to poke her head in occasionally to check on Bud and I. It is sometimes hard to get her to come inside! She will freeze out there in the morning, but won't give up her job of guard dog. On the other hand, Mr. Bud doesn't even want to go outside and pee if the grass is the slightest bit wet.

The waiting game

Every morning while I am eating my breakfast, the dogs wait for me to be done so they can lick the yogurt cup. Gracie gets the spoon and Bud gets the cup. Gracie is cheating a little bit, she knows she has to wait on the carpet. Dogs are opportunistic feeders. I am amazed when I drop something how fast Gracie will get it.. before it even hits the ground she has swallowed it. Whether it be a prune or cranberry, She gets it before Bud even notices something fell. He says "what happened? what did I miss?"

Family portraits??

It is hard to get a family portrait with my dogs.. is that too much to ask? Bud is always looking the other way. When I try and show him a toy to get his attention, he won't stop barking at me. He would rather play than pose. Jetta sure loved to pose. Gracie will sometimes pose. It is almost impossible to get a good picture of Bud and I together. His bark is deafening!

Ms. Determination

I gave Gracie a raw carrot. What she did was take it outside and start munching on it. She was really having trouble with her missing teeth, but she got through it! I thought it was too cute. Bud on the other hand likes his carrots lightly steamed and seasoned and cut up for him.. go figure. Who has spoiled dogs? not me..

Bud was a very bad boy!

The other day while my helper and I were swimming Bud at Morro bay.. his favorite swimming place.. he once again tried to bully a dog. My helper Vanessa was luckily able to hold his leash tight enough to prevent him from jumping the small dog. The reason for this is first he is spoiled, secondly he is really over sensitive, third it is a dog thing. He wants to intimidate innocent dogs. He gets frustrated when he loses a ball at the bay and wants to take his frustration out and pounce on a dog and teach them a lesson. He has never hurt a dog but needs some serious training. When we got home I got the old shock collar out ( the one he used to be trained with when he would pull me over at the beach). He immediately went to his crate and hid.
This morning before he could have his food he had to have the collar put on, which he sure didn't like, but too bad. He has been barking more because of people in the street. When he started barking I told him no barking, he barked twice more and I zapped him (it's not a hard shock but enough to get his attention).. he came right in the house. This is really bad behavior and he will have the collar on for as long as it takes, especially when we are at the bay.
Dog training is repetition, patience and never stopping.. That's why trainers get $65 an hour! I get to have a well mannered dog that doesn't yap all the time.

Trouble With Gracie

Last week, by mistake I bumped Gracie with my scooter, and for several days she did not want to go with me walking or running. I know she did not get hurt, she didn't want to trust me. I waited until Vanessa, one of Gracie's favorite gals, could help me make her trust me and let me take her on walks again because they are fun. Gracie let me walk her after Vanessa hooked her up to the scooter and we all went to the beach together. We tried putting her in the scooter basket because we thought maybe she didn't want to walk, but she jumped out. She needs the exercise, it is good for dogs anyways. She is cranky when she doesn't get her exercise just like me. We took her bark collar off too.. I couldn't stand seeing her in pain. It is her breed to bark. She had fun. Bud always has fun with a ball or a stick. He loves digging huge holes in the sand.
I am working with Gracie to come to me when she hears the sound of a whistle. She was barking this morning, I blew the whistle and she came running in and went right to her crate without me telling her to. I told her she was a good girl and she wasn't in trouble.. I just want her to come when I blow the whistle. Another extraordinary thing happened on our walk yesterday.. on the way there we saw a calm old dog off the leash with a woman and Gracie was really interested in seeing the dog. When we passed the dog again on our way home, I asked the woman if it would be ok if Gracie tried to meet her dog. The dog off the leash did the circle sniff routine respectful dogs do (rather than going straight for the behind). When the dog went for a sniff of Gracie's behind, she just stood there! She is minding me and is much more calm around other dogs now. I still have to put her in her crate when new people come in the house, but she is making great progress.

Food Is For Training

The pups and me had a short training session the other day

If you see in the pictures where the dogs attention goes, you can see first hand how easy it is to get the dogs attention. When food is involved the dogs pay good attention and when the food is gone they chill out.. hoping for more. Food is a good way to help train your dog. Gracie is more easily trained with food.. Bud more so with toys.

Gracie update

Gracie has been so good. she has not bit me in a while.. even though she has tried. We have upped her prozac to one whole pill a day. She will probably always have issues because she was abandoned on the streets of LA and was abused. You can't feel sorry for her though because they sense it and will take advantage of you.. gotta treat her like a big dog. She is still working on boundary training.. she won't stay out of the kitchen where the food is when new staff are working. She really tests them and will walk all over them. Terriers are stubborn little creatures by nature and feisty. This particular day she was so good that I took a picture of her in my pretty scarf. She is too darn cute. When get on the or when i have company she puts herself between me and the other person  When I have fallen she stay right next me so we are touching. When the bark collar is on her, if she barks then she runs into crate.I hate that collar but sometimes I use it. She know when that bad collar is on she should not bark. She is super smart.  She car rides, and her several walks a day. Also she love to be massaged She get so relaxed she leans on my body.

She is waiting to be fed, you can't trust her around food
