I do my best for my boy. Swimning is the best for keeping strong in the rear legs. I see a huge differce in is movment after he swims. He naps and when he wakes up he is full of energy.

Party Time Buddy For The New Year

Dogs love to party! They party everday day. Any reason to party is good for dogs. The party when they are taking a walk........look at their smiles. And the beach is the unlimate party. Oh my God look at them dig, and sniff and when the find stinky stuff, they roll. Jetta was a roller on my Lord the stinky dog order. Thank God Bud never learned that..........Dog don't make New Year resolutions for the furture.I don't make then either...... just feel bad when you don't keep your promise to yourself. God know that we humans can be hard on ourselfs. Dog wake up happy ever morning. Bud comes to see me with his sweet wet kisses. Kiss for dog floods my brain with serotonim

Why I Take Bud To Warm Water Therapy

Buddy is a old dog he sometimes starts to lose his footing on walk. Bud is great shape for his age. Buddy has arthrits, from old age like me. He is on the best meds avaialbe. Of course i keep his weight at 74 lbs. Perfect! I walk him slow for about 20 mins on day and the next day we go to the beach. The way we go is 4 or 5 blocks to the beach stairs. The Bud barks for a ball in his then he takes the stairs one step a a time. He goes 2 flight down and 2 flights. Down on the beach he goes for a frizbe toss. not too far just so he can get his workout. I stop him in 15 min and when he climbs the stairs up he rests the he gets a drink of cool water..... he walks home slow but steady. We get home he takes a nap until dinner time. After dinner he wants to play for 10 minutes or so. ..Bud is a special boy. He has swam all his life. Look how good his legs go in the water. He gives me kisses after our towel game. This makes me happy. Swimming will keep his hind legs strong for as long as possible. I do water therapy too. it has kept me going for 73 yr and counting...................love my Buddy !

Miss My Swimming

My life and body feel happy when i am in the pool. Sadly the pool is closed again until January !! Bummer ..........i go thru withdrawls. Buddy swims at Splas he is the lucky pup. I will survive 6 weeks. I survied 6 months. I love my new swim jacket my present to myself for my bithday was a swim jacket because i swim year long even when its cold out. Every one needs to be safe.

Thankful My Many Blessing

Bud had his anually vet check up,blood work etc. I could not be with him because of the virus. The tech had to drag him in. Bud whines and carries on like a baby. I blame that on his painful injuies in the past. After the exam the vet called to tell me that he would never guess is 13 --he said he though he was 5 yrs younger. I love this dog will all my heart. I keep him moving at the beach most every day. And after dinner we play play Fribee in the yard. Bud is a strong active happy old guy. Bud is my most presioc blessing. I thank God for his good health each day. Happy Thanks Thankgiving to all my loving family and friends.

Bud Is Back At Splash

Jetta swam at Splash when she got to be a senior dog. Swimming is the best exercise for their back legs. Splash is a pool for dogs its 86%. I wish i could get in with Bud. It pricey but i know that this is good for Bud. I am not able to take Bud to the bay. Bud's eyes are not as clear as when he was younger and it is hard for a dog to see where the ball is over the glare of sun. He gets happy when we drive up to her place. Chris is great.

Stroy Of A Stray --Lucy

Lucy has a sad past but her life is beautuful but she does have issues. I met her 3-4 years ago when a niegbor got her at my local dog and cat rescue. She was found in a field under a barn shelter with another dog. No one knows how long or if the dog was her pup. She was sweet and lovable, but She is a wanderer. If she sees an open gate, she takes a walk around the neigborhood. No good. Last week I took care of her for a week. I made sure than she had plently of exercise. The last hour of her visit, somehow my gate got left open and luckly I went oustside with Bud for his after dinner romp. Much to my shock i saw the gate open and NO Lucy !! Luckly she was down the street following a gal with her dog. When you love a stray it means that you have your life to help this stray have a good long Next week I am getting security power gate with a lock. I will have a buzzer and remote.I have been wanting this for awhile.Bud will never leave his yard but dogs will follow their nose.

Old Dog Need His Play And Rest

Bud wants to play all the time even when he is tired. As the pack leader I now that he is 13 have changes some of his routines. I take him very other day to the beach where he hopes down 2 filths of stairs, some day we go two days and not the 3rd day.I go by how frizby he asks. Never when it too hot. The heat drains him...me too. We are oldtimers! He use to run down them. Now I hope my breath while he goes down the steep steps. I yell at him." Be careful one step at time.......you got this! Whe he gets to the sand i yell' Your the man you are the best!" I throw an old black frrizbee so he sees it better. He is smiling the entire time. Check out his tounge out in the yard with the fribzbee that we play with after dinner every day. Then he is tired and happy.I know that a tired dog is a happy dog. LOVE THIS LAB!!

Bud is getting older and is struggling with 2 flights of stairs when he plays At the beach, the other day it was very warm when we went to the beach. I let Bud play 20 minutes, I should had him play for 10 minutes. On the way home saw how tired he was. My job is to make sure that doesn't happen again. Today I took him to swim in a warm dog pool. He loved it. I am now taking him on shorter walks and the beach less often. Bud loves swimming. Bud also loves playing in our yard with the frisbee. After 10 minutes he is so happy and tired. We do this 2 a day. For now the swimming will keep his hind legs strong.

Bud is still an active old dog.....................I know what to do to keep him moving as long as possible.

Buddy Loves Bath Time

It was a warm day and Buddy was due for his monthly bath. Tawnya got the honor.....watch the video how much Bud enjoys being pampered. Tawnya has her heart stolen by Buddy. She can't help Bud is a lover boy!

Bud Loves His Afternoon Play Time

Dogs love routine, every morning Bud goes to the beach for his playtime. Bud waits for this special time. I no longer want Bud to carry his stick or ball in his mouth. He hesitates on the steep beach stairs. So my job is to make it easier for him. So i carry a big ball in my fanny pack. Once he is on the sand he gets to play.. He digs,digs digs and after 10 or 15 minute he wants me to throw the ball. We do this at least 10 minutes. My throws go no more than 8 ft . Perfect for old Bud. My old arm gets sore if I throw longer!
Then I let him rest for a bit the we walk up the stairs. Some times, I give him a little treat. When he climbs the stairs, I give him a drink of water. He likes to take his time sniffing ever plant down the path to the street.
When we get home, Bud lays in the sun or come in house and sleeps. After dinner when get on my inside scotter he is ready for more play. He gets so happy, I love making him so happy. Look at that face waiting for the ball.
I am the lucky one, Blessed with this boy.

My friend's dog spent time here. Bud is so patient with. She is a sweet dog and Bud is used to pushy females. Just look at the video and smile. Lucy have been doing this same pestering for affection for 3 year! She has even gone is his crate while he is sleeping and she still is alive!! Good Bud.

Bud Helps Mom On Cold Windy Day --According to Bud

This afternoon the beach was cold and windy. Mom took me to our beach anyway. We played with my beach old red frizbee. Mom can throw it. Her back gets tired now because mom says  shes not young anymore. Then she sits down on the stairs and throws.She makes me put it in her hand or she wouldn't play. When I bark at her to go faster, she looks away. (Rude)
Today as we left I carried the frizbee  up the stairs as i usually let Mom pick it up.
(She says i'm lazy.)
Mom climbed all the beach stairs and then she looked down and saw my old beach frizbee on the bottom of the stairs.
Mom looked at me and said," BUDDY GET THE FRIZBEE OR WE LEAVE IT HERE.  I ran down the stairs and got the toy and i carried it up all the way to Mom.
Mom said what a good boy I guess you are ready for dinner. Yes home for food. What a good girl.

Helping Old Bud Play

Now that both me and Bud are seniors some thing have to change. Like I can't walk on the beach alone anymore.  I suffer with arthritis too. Bud has it in his left knee from when he blew his knee out when he was five. He was in awesome shape as he is now. He is on a wonder drug from the vet and i have for many years given him fatty acids. Now is eye sight is different not so sharp as when he was young. He needs help finding balls or a small stick at the beach. Now i bring down a bigger colored ball or a colored frizbee. It helps him find the toy because he never has looked where its going.Bud just goes is shearch mode with his nose. I say to him"Buddy use the good nose you were born with baby. He runs in wide circles. His nose is still very keen. Several days ago the morning was drearly and when i woke up Bud was not in my bed. I got up early that am because i couldn't fall asleep again.

I put his food out and still no Bud, i ate my breakfast and still no Bud. I started tripping out. I thought oh my God he died! I called and called. No Bud.Then i looked in my bedroom room and saw him sleeping. I came close to make sure he was still breathing! Oh the stress over an older dog! Buddy mother live to be 13 or 14. she was in good shape too. 

Dogs do not fear death we do the worrying for them. They live in the moment to the fullest of fun.I moan every am when i do my exercises,  I never hear Bud moan. Bud gives me a job every day to keep me happy. I take him to play at the beach and my day gets happy. Dog know the rule of peace and joy. My job is to take care of my boy for as long as he lives, this keeps me going forward.
By the way Bud does know how old he is --to him he is 2 going on 3! Bud loves his new red frizbee.

One day while was getting ready to take Buddy to the beach, I looked up to see this !

Bud Gets Way Again ...I can't help but giving in!

Last night,I ate left over macaroni and cheese, dad's recipe. The kitchen was filled with scent of chess,heavy cream and butter. I offered my helper a taste since she was drooling as much as Bud who was on his dog bed next to the table.....she tasted it and moaned with delite. ( it is very best ever)  The Bud got up and brought me the phone. Without me asking for it We laughed. He wanted top taste too!
I happened too fast to get the video. But asked for the phone and you can see what he did on his own.

Dad never wrote it down so i will tell the recipe for my dear cousin Nancy.  Or any body who loves mac and cheese.

He only used Tillamook sharp cheddar cheese. For a large baking dish i used 2 .5 lb of cheese one large one lb of elbow  macaroni pasta.  ( my shopper got small but pasta but it tasted wonderful. next time i will try the bigger pasta.
 cook your noodles, butter your baking dish,it has to be real butter for the same taste.  then slice the cheese not too thin remember how much dad loved his chess. them pour the cooked noodles the on top slice more chessed and cover the noodle with cheese then pour over the noddles and cheese heavy cream then black pepper. to taste. I never use salt but salt if you wish,
bake 350  my big baking dish took 45 min in a pre -heated oven.

Remembering my Dad's Macaroni and cheese recipe

My Dad was famous for his macaroni  and cheese. I found the recipe and made it today in thinking of him. I ate the food and i was missing all the family dinners when made his mac and cheese. Nobody could resist. So good! Miss you mom and dad.

Care Giver Turned Friend

When I first me Elias, I fell in love with Sparky her Golden Retriever. He was always groomed so well I never saw a Golden that well groomed. I invited her to a dog party the next week. We got to know each other and of course her handsome dog. Then mentioned to her that i was looking for help if she knew anybody to ask for me if they wanted a part time job. She even went with to Disney Land for 3 days. It was too much fun. She is wanting to retire now, I begged and begged her not to. But she needs to her life back. I took her hostage. We have worked together, cried together. We fight sometimes like family-- she is family now. She is the first caregiver to tell me no.She is the best sister ---mom i have. Happy mothers day friend for life. I am bless with your love and devotion. I love you so much. you have kept me afloat over the years. You are the best mom to our Jennifer and Gracie. 

and she has called me ever morning to see if i made it through the night. Bud adores her.

Thank God For My Caregivers--they keep me afloat !

My life works easier when I have help. I live with my dog and don't drive anymore. The house work is much for me now, like changing my bed cooking for the week food that I love.
Now I have 3 gals. Tanwnya shops for my food and cooks for me. Did I mention how much I like to eat. Eating is one of my favorite activities. Shopping lately is an adventure. Thank God I don't have to go to Costco or Trader Joes. Bye the way Tanwnya is a huge dog lover!! That's a big part of the job since Bud thinks the gals all work for him. Notice her apron ! Cute she loves Pit Bulls. Thank you for caring about us. We are blessed to have you with us. Love you !

God's Gift Phil Master Gardener

My friend Phil is married to Elisa. Phil has done some many chores around my yard and home that he is an angel to do give of his time. Last he helped me do a project that would taken many, many hours to get done. I watched him and know my orchids are much happier. Thanks to my friend Phil.

The best brownie surprise ever!!!!!

One of my favorite things to do is bake and give and share my talents with my loved ones. I call them my triple layer brownie surprise. They have brownie mix, chocolate chips,peanut butter, cream cheese frosting,chocolate chip cookie in a package,salted peanuts. They are a crowd favorite!

I was home in bed for 2 months after toe surgery. One morning I was watching the Today Show.  I was bored but i like the look of it. But i added more steps and goodies, to make it my creation. I am know for having the skill to make delicious cookies. If anyone wants my secret recipe I will give it to you. It is one of my best creations.I miss having company and sharing my labor of love. I love watching people enjoy my food.

One More Day Of No Friends Over To Play So Mom Will Do

Bud's life is routine. Ever day after I finish my exercises, Bud knows his turn is next. He waits and waits and waits. Finally he see me leaving my bedroom and he just started barking like a spoiled dog. I don't like spoiled dogs so I remembered that I had some bitter spray for dogs to stop them for barking or whatever they are doing to drive you NUTS!
Last week I sprayed him and he stopped the awful barking my face. Now I just have to show the bottle to him and he is quiet. To bad I didn't bring it with me the beach. Here is how he gets his energy out. He plays like this for 20 to 30 minutes and then he is happy until my gal leaves and he makes her play with him for 5 minutes. He comes in ready for a nap. When he was younger he would not stop for hours and hours It's all in my second book about him in Lessons From Jetta.
